A 327 m long ice core drilled in ~1 m increments was collected at 5,334 m above sea level over the course of 12 days on Mont logan summit plateau with challenging weather conditions. Ski-in ski-out with helicopter assistance for the drill and the cores.
One contract took us to Antarctica where we were able to successfully drill to 210 meters while another client, using the same drill in a nearby camp, was able to reach 150 meters. 2 years later we drilled to 260m with drilling fluid and very good core quality.
Icefield Instruments teamed up with the University of Calgary for a training expedition on the Kaskawulsh Glacier. Using their recently purchased Ice drill, we were able to drill two holes.
Icefield instruments designed and manufactured an ice borehole reaming kit compatible with the 102mm Eclipse ice drill. This system was tested in Antarctica and produced a 260mm hole.
2 ice cores of 150m have been extracted from ice rise near the Amundsen Sea involving ice breaker and helicopter operations. Icefield instruments was operating the drill.
